I am a huge basketball fan, and with the NBA Playoffs right around the corner, I have been seeing a lot of NBA commercials on ESPN. It got me thinking what are some of my favorite sports commercials of all time, and this NBA one is definitely one them at the top. When I watch this commercial there are moments that I get chills. I feel like it is more than just a promotion, but a commercial meant to show the true emotion and feelings of NBA players that any NBA fan would love to know. Tell me what you guys think. -Jonathan S.

If someone wasn’t a basketball fan before this, they sure as hell better be now. This commercial is phenomenal. I totally understand how you could get chills during parts of this, Jonathan. It’s all about emotion, which is sometimes the best route to take. It is obvious that none of what the players are saying is scripted. Look at 1:00-1:05. If that’s not pure passion for the game, I’m not sure what could represent it. This execution is great.
Comment by Dakotah Braun April 14, 2011 @ 3:04 pmThis just shows that everyone is human. NBA player or not, everyone knows what this commercial means right from the start with KG. If you’ve played a sport before you understand what they talk about when they say the little intricacies that drive them. The smell of the leather, the sound of the sneakers on the floor, the fact that being “in the zone” is beyond the realm of physics. All those things have been apart of anyones life in sports, and to be able to just hear from the best out there today makes it that much more amazing.
Comment by Colin Ball April 15, 2011 @ 10:50 amI agree with Dakotah, the video clips really make a case for the passion of the game. It makes basketball look so dramatic and important, compelling people to watch and be interested in it. I wonder what advertising for the NBA was like in the 80s and 90s; I’m sure it wasn’t this good. This appeals to more of how much the players want to win more than their celebrity status as professional athletes, which is a good strategy.
Comment by Nathan Ancheta April 15, 2011 @ 3:09 pmWhat I like about this is that they use several players and only focus on one player for just a few words at a time. This keeps things interesting and it is synced perfectly which is easy to follow. The text floating on the screen getting closer to the viewer is also a nice touch.
